This chapter is an introduction to client/server programming in OpenInsight.   OpenInsight's Client/Server Workspace provides a rich set of tools for reading, writing, and updating databases such as Microsoft Access, SQL Server, and Oracle.  Before reading this chapter, you should read the Client/Server workspace discussion and be familiar with the tools, such as the Connection Designer, the Data Set Designer, the Data Warehouse Manager, and the Query Designer.

For many applications, such as data warehousing, these tools might be sufficient.  However, some specialized applications require custom BASIC+ programming.  To program efficiently requires an understanding of how OpenInsight connects to other databases, and, once connected, how to write a BASIC+ program that reads to and writes from these databases.   Programming applications based on real world requirements will be illustrated.
